About the artwork
The center of the picture is the red stone gate. The viewer looks back through the gate at a pile of sand. The sand heap stands for the “time of passing” similar to an hourglass – here the hourglass of life. When all the stones have fallen, life ends. The red stone gate now stands for the end of life. The 2: 1 picture division (sky: ground) makes the red gate appear even larger and therefore more imposing. The painting has a custom-made model frame and is dated and signed on the front.
