Title: The Janus law
Technique: Oil on Canvas
Year: 1991
Dimensions: 60 x 70 cm (H x W)
About the artwork
There are three trees in the center of the picture. The middle tree is growing right now. The tree trunks of the two outer trees bend to the other side of the picture. On both sides of the picture, to the right and left of the trees, you can see different times of day and landscapes. The two halves of the picture (day and night) emphasize the contrast. The opposites – or the polarity – clarify the Janus law. Janus the double-faced god in ancient Rome. The two pivoting trees only seem to change the opposite side, as they remain rooted on one side – the light or the dark – for life. The painting has a custom-made model frame and is dated and signed on the front. The oil painting is titled, dated and signed on the back cover.
