About the artwork
In its treetop, a tree unites spring and autumn, blooming and withering, life and death, growth and decay in a beautiful landscape. The different times of day on both sides of the picture emphasize these contrasts, according to the Janus law. At the foot of the tree there are some broken branches, each with a small bird sitting on both sides. In the background, other smaller trees line up in an avenue; they too wear either the spring green or the autumn leaves. The painting has a custom-made model frame with a light passe-partout. The painting is signed and dated on the front and back.
