About the artwork
The oil painting is a classical tondo. The tondo is a square painting in which a circular image is painted. Thus the square forms a frame picture which encloses the inner picture of the circle. The circular inner picture shows a stony landscape with several rocky stelae against a light blue sky. Colourful flowers and plants with yellow, red and orange blossoms grow between these stones. The rest of the square outdoor picture shows a barren stone landscape with large and small stones. Between the stones grows a multitude of young green plants that fight their way through the stones. The painting has a single model frame and is titled, dated and signed on the reverse.
