About the artwork
This painting is part of a series of four oil paintings about human transience, i.e. death. In the painting “Sediments of Life” six human skulls stand in a destroyed landscape with a blazing light in the sky. The skulls were obviously placed in this skull site for years and exposed to the influence of wind and weather. There, the skulls weather and crumble into smaller pieces. This becomes very clear at the bottom of the painting, where the different layers of sediment over the last few years are shown. The painting features a handmade model frame and is titled, dated and signed on the reverse.
